Queen’s green chemistry researcher to be highlighted on Discovery Channel

Dr. Philip Jessop, Canada Research Chair in Green Chemistry at Queen’s University, will be highlighted on Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet this Thursday, Feb. 10. The highly popular daily science program will demonstrate how Dr. Jessop’s “switchable” solvents work. The show airs at 7-8 pm and again at 11 pm on the Discovery Channel.

Dr. Jessop’s water-compatible/incompatible solvents and surfactants show strong potential as green alternatives for many industrial processes currently requiring high energy and toxic substances. His work in this area was recognized with a 2010 Killam Research Fellowship, and the 2009 NSERC Polanyi Prize. Dr. Jessop’s technologies are being commercialized by GreenCentre Canada.
