GreenCentre Canada attracts more than 100 Green Chemistry research disclosures

June 1, 2010

KINGSTON, ON -- GreenCentre Canada is pleased to announce that it has surpassed 100 invention disclosures from Green Chemistry researchers across Canada.

To date, GreenCentre has attracted a total of 110 technologies from 25 academic research institutions across nine provinces. These technology disclosures are the first step in identifying promising new Green Chemistry innovations.

GreenCentre Canada is a national Centre of Excellence for developing, de-risking and commercializing early-stage Green Chemistry discoveries generated by academic researchers and industry.

The steady inflow of discoveries suggests that GreenCentre’s collaborative, industry-led approach is filling an important need in Canada’s innovation economy, says Dr. Rui Resendes, Executive Director of GreenCentre.

“In just over 60 weeks we’ve managed to engage the interest of a broad segment of Canada’s Green Chemistry research and technology transfer communities, at an average rate of nearly two disclosures per week,” says Dr. Resendes.

“This shows us that there’s an openness to this exciting new model of technology commercialization, and we’re very encouraged by the continuing interest of Canada’s Green Chemistry innovators.”

Technologies brought to GreenCentre undergo a 90-day review process by an in-house committee of industry and commercialization experts. To date, 15 technologies have been recommended for further development by GreenCentre, with many more technologies still being assessed.

Three additional technologies have also been granted funding for further early development work under GreenCentre’s in-house Proof-of-Principle program, with five more funding announcements pending.
