GreenCentre signs on North American recycling company

GreenCentre Canada has struck a partnership with a North American plastics recycling company whose wide-ranging markets touch nearly every plastic process in the world.

With more than 25 years of experience, NexCycle Plastics Inc (NPI) is a full service recycled plastics compounder and distributor of polymers that services a network of manufacturers across Canada and in the northeastern and midwestern United States. The company’s cost effective, high performance recycled resins for film, pipe, sheet extrusion and injection molding applications are distributed internationally, serving markets that include everything from diverse industrial and automotive equipment parts to construction, pipe, film, packaging, toys and other retail items.

”As a major force in plastics recycling, this company makes an immense contribution to global efforts aimed at creating a more sustainable world. We are looking forward to working with NexCycle to identify new green technologies that will advance their own operational goals,” says Dr. Rui Resendes, GreenCentre’s Executive Director.

GreenCentre Canada brings together leading Green Chemistry researchers from universities across Canada, national and international industry partners, and commercialization experts in a common goal of identifying and developing clean, less energy-intensive alternatives to traditional chemical products and manufacturing processes. Its collaborative commercialization approach includes everything from technology assessment, scale-up and testing to intellectual property protection, businessa management and financial resources.

“We are pleased to be a sponsor to GreenCentre Canada,” says NexCycle President Laurence Borg. “The plastics recycling industry is still in its infancy. Innovation in the conversion of waste streams to valuable feedstocks for re-integration into manufactured applications is key to environmental sustainability. Nexcycle believes its partnership with GreenCentre will drive an expansion in the recycled solutions we offer to North America.”

Formed less than a year ago, GreenCentre has been enthusiastically received by both the academic and industrial sectors. It has already received more than 90 technology disclosures from Canadian universities and is now negotiating a number of license agreements to bring technologies into the Centre for further commercialization.

With today’s announcement, NexCycle becomes the 7th company to officially sign a sponsorship agreement with GreenCentre, which already has strong representation from Canadian and international companies, including NOVA Chemical Corp., Fielding Chemical Technologies, Polycorp Ltd., Pressure Chemical Co., Albonia Innovative Technologies Ltd. and Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies (VWS).

Through their relationships with GreenCentre, the companies gain one-stop preferential access to Canada’s Green Chemistry discoveries.  They are also given a direct role in assessing new technologies and in advising on the development of those technologies that are brought into the Centre for further development.

GreenCentre is scheduled to move into its new state-of-the art lab and scale-up facility by this spring.
