Gemini Surfactants

Inventor: Dr. Gerard Marangoni
Institution: St. Francis Xavier University

Surfactants are a class of chemicals with a large range of applications, both industrially and for home consumer products. These compounds are generally long chain-like molecules, with one end of the chain able to mix with water and the other end able to mix with oils. These features allow surfactants to be widely used as soaps and cleansers, as well as for many other industrial products such as lubricants, anti-foaming agents and coatings.

GreenCentre Canada has licensed a proprietary series of Gemini surfactants, based on a pentaerythitol core, from the laboratories of Dr. Gerard Marangoni at St. Francis Xavier University. These surfactants can thus be used at significantly lower concentrations yet provide the same cleansing and lubrication effects.
